I am still observing an issue where forms added to a LeveledItem through script are not showing up in an NPC's inventory / vendor menu.  The problem seems easiest to reproduce when loading autosaves.

I have confirmed that this function does work on the latest version of Skyrim, 1.9.32.0.8. I have tested it with adding spell tomes to several LeveledItem lists (LItemSpellTomes00Spells, etc) and observing that vendors that use this list have their merchandise updated appropriately. The added forms also persisted across save games.
The old behavior noted above where loading a save game where this function '''has not''' been called while playing a game where the function '''has''' been called no longer leads to a CTD.
Bethesda themselves use this function (successfully) in the Hearthfire script BYOHRelationshipAdoptableScript.psc to add Hearthfire children's toys and clothing to leveled lists.
It seems that '''this function works as intended''' and does not contribute to CTDs. If you do not see your merchant selling what you expect after having called this, it could be that the merchant needs to reset their inventory because you've already talked to them at some point in the recent past. Waiting a few game days usually resolves this problem.

broken or weird behavior (pre 1.6)

seems to be either broken or working differently than additemtoleveledlist and addformtoformlist in FO3 and FONV, it used to store the changed data inside the savegame, yet now, when you load an old save that had this function called the changes will be gone, loading a savegame that did not have this function called after having this function called on a savegame or newgame leads to a CTD --Jaysus 04:06, 18 February 2012 (EST)

This was fixed with v1.6

I have confirmed that this function does work on the latest version of Skyrim, 1.9.32.0.8. I have tested it with adding spell tomes to several LeveledItem lists (LItemSpellTomes00Spells, etc) and observing that vendors that use this list have their merchandise updated appropriately. The added forms also persisted across save games.

The old behavior noted above where loading a save game where this function has not been called while playing a game where the function has been called no longer leads to a CTD.

Bethesda themselves use this function (successfully) in the Hearthfire script BYOHRelationshipAdoptableScript.psc to add Hearthfire children's toys and clothing to leveled lists.

It seems that this function works as intended and does not contribute to CTDs. If you do not see your merchant selling what you expect after having called this, it could be that the merchant needs to reset their inventory because you've already talked to them at some point in the recent past. Waiting a few game days usually resolves this problem.
