If you're replying in a talk page to someone who didn't sign, you can use this template like so:
{{unsigned|username|date}}
You can copy the username and date right out of the edit history, to get something like:
- How do you use these stupid eye guards anyway? {{unsigned|King Harold II|11:58, 14 October 1066}}
This will be displayed something like:
