Corrupt esp / mod / data recover

This is a simple method that helps you recover part of your work if the creation kit is able to read your corrupt file, with this method you can also try to discover what form is causing corruption if any (might be another thing).

  • Open the ck and click save so you create a new plugin, for example NEW.esp
  • Open the ck again but this time load your corrupt plugin and the NEW.esp as active
  • Select forms you want to recover duplicate them and save, new forms will appear in the NEW.esp, note that (at least at this moment) the ck won't let you copy more than one form at a time, I advise going down the object window and copying a group at a time, for example first you copy all your actors, then you copy all you actor actions, etc
  • For control purposes after each group you can check ingame to see if the know bug appears, that's how you might discover the corrupt form if any
  • Do the same for interior cells, exterior cells / worldspaces can be duplicated but ck messes them up
  • The corruption might be in the header or in another part of the .esp, in that case none of your forms will cause the bug to appear
  • After completing continue work in the NEW.esp, keep the old corrupted one because you might need to check your work

Achtung.png Remember that all placed forms (inside cells, etc) that are original from your corrupt .esp and not from vanilla skyrim.esp will have to be placed again in the NEW.esp, one quick way to do this is to continue to work with the corrupt .esp open, for example you select an actor then you CTRL+F (new window pops up) replace him by the DUPLICATE one. Same is true for script properties, formlists, etc, everything that references to your corrupt .esp will be gone, you have to re-do all that.
Achtung.png When you go ingame to check don't forget to uncheck your corrupt .esp in data files, check only the NEW.esp.

This isn't the best solution of the world but at least you have the chance to recover part of your work.

Good Luck!
