0 Books can be added to the shelf[edit source]

Occasionally this issue shows up and I cannot for the life of me figure out what is causing it, All the triggers and containers are linked and referenced correctly, you see the "Activate Bookshelf" show up but can't activate it. If you use the container directly it says 0 books can be added. Psyc 19:37, 15 February 2012 (EST)

Exactly the same here. Not only that, but the issue arises immediately after I place the book markers (tried with 1, 2 and 3 objects) and then create the container. I then reference the books to the container. According to the tutorial, at this stage I should see the "Search Book Container" dialog (which I can) but when accessed, even though there are up to 3 book markers placed, it tells be I can place 0 items on the shelf. Anyone have any solutions to this? WalB 11:43, 11 March 2012 (EDT)
OK, well the solution, it seems, is to make ABSOLUTELY sure that the game reloads the cell in which you've created the bookshelf. It won't work if you simply save and reload a game when you're actually in that cell, and simply "coc"ing or (in some cases) fast travelling, doesn't automatically reload the cell. Dependent on your computer memory (I assume), it may cache some cells/locations and won't reload them. WalB 13:02, 11 March 2012 (EDT)
If you are having this issue with bookshelves, simplu leave the cell that the problem is occurring in (go out into Skyrim overworld, etc) then press the tilde key (~) and type either PCB or Purgecellbuffer. press enter. when you reenter the cell the bookcase should be fixed.

Collision Havoc[edit source]

I've set the collision planes/cubes to effectively fill the gaps above, below, to the sides and in front of, the book markers, so as not to allow any spaces the books may fall through, as per the tutorial. However, when I try to place a few books onto the shelves, they freak out... they bash about, knocking into each other and the back and sides of the shelf, like demented rubber balls. The collision planes work fine - it stops them from falling out of the front of the bookcase, but how on earth do I stop them from acting as though they're demonically possessed? Update: Well, in all the tutorials I've read and watched, there has never been a mention of where exactly you should place the BookShelfContainer - in fact in one video tutorial, the container was set inside of the book markers on the respective shelf. It seems that this is what causes the bouncing about... so, a word of caution: if you happen to experience this - MAKE SURE that you place the BookShelfContainer outside of any other markers or triggers (preferably a little way behind the bookcase or whatever furniture item you use)! Other issue/question[edit source]

Have another weird one. I built a perfectly working bookshelf which opening is facing the North. I duplicated it. The duplicate works fine too. Its opening also faces North. I rotate it 90 degrees so that it faces East or West, it works. I rotate it more to be facing South, it no longer works!. That is the "Activate Bookshelf" doesn't show up. I tried rotation the triggers and containers so that they would be in the same direction as originally, but to no avail. Driving me crazy! Any one got a clue? Accessing the container directly still works. Graysandir 07:45 16 February 2012 (GMT)

Same with the mannequins, the only difference is when they're facing north. Every times i put their faces to the north, they stop working. Really annoying. Scripting issue? --Kkalex 01:25, 20 February 2012 (EST)
After extensive testing on Graysandir's issue, I think the problem is that the ClickTriggers and Triggers are rotated 0 degrees (ie not at all). If you simply rotate them 180 degrees, the bookshelf should become functional. Hopefully this works for anyone with this problem. -Shadownet 04:49, 23 February 2012 (EST)

Another weird issue. I have some perfectly functioning bookshelves in my mod. Unless I put something other than books onto the shelf like a bounty note. The bookshelves work with these items too although if I want to read the note almost the entire text vanishes. (Original text reads: "Bounty. By order of Korir: To all able bodied men..." If I put that note on a shelf only "Bounty. By order of" remains. Same happens in Breezehome.) --VikMorroHun (talk) 12:46, 19 October 2012 (EDT)

Be careful about using items that are already containers. In particular, there is a dresser with a top shelf that superficially appears identical to the shelves of the upper bookshelves. However the activation box for the container covers the entire mesh, blocking the use of a trigger for the bookshelf. This can be rectified by changing the .nif, but that's a whole lot more work.

Shortcut[edit source]

I saved a ton of time assigning references, creating collision volumes, etc. I do this by simply finding a bookshelf in a player home cell, then copying and pasting it into the cell I am working on. I did this by dragging a selection window around the bookcase, locating the "PlayerBookshelfContainer" renders (they are orange boxes located somewhere near the shelf, easy to find because there will be several lines connecting the shelf to them), holding ctrl and clicking them so they are included in my copy and paste. Right click on anything that is selected and click copy. I had to wait several seconds after this because it was not only copying the objects but also all of the reference assignments. Once you are sure everything was copied, return to the cell you where working on and find an empty space. Right click in the empty space and select paste. You may have caught other objects in the process, simply select them individually and cut them. If you want more than one shelf, drag a selection window around it and make sure you get all objects that are referenced, right click and select duplicate. Wait several more seconds for the duplication process, the click and drag the shelf away from the duplicate (they will overlap). I made myself a library that can hold 702 books using this method in under 20 minutes. I shudder to think how long it would have taken if I had done each shelf individually. karatebullfighter 17:35 18 February 2012 (CST)
