Defines an individual music track and some of its playback parameters. Music Tracks are added to the Music Type form.

  • ID: unique name of the Music Track
  • Track Type: select from one of three fundamental types of Music Track:
    • Palette Track a multi-layer track type. Individual Music Tracks plugged into each layer will be played back at random, simultaneously with other layers.
      • Duration defines the length of the Palette track. Its individual tracks across all layers will continue to play for this duration.
      • Fade-Out when the duration of the Palette has been reached, the Palette will be faded out over this value in seconds.
    • Silent Track useful in creating periods of silence in between traditional Music Tracks or in Palettes. Set desired duration in seconds.
    • Single Track use this setting for a traditional, single Music Track.
  • Choose File points to the target music file in the game's subfolders.
  • Choose Finale points to a corresponding "finishing" section of a Music Track. This is used for Combat tracks, crossfading from one of the Cue Points directly into the Finale track when combat ends before the completion of a Combat track.
  • Import Metadata (not supported)
  • Contains Loop checkbox to indicate whether a track should be looped. Set parameters below in seconds to indicate loop points and number of iterations if necessary.
  • Conditions use this to set game conditions on any individual Music Track, whether Palette, Silent or Single.

Known Issues[edit | edit source]

When importing music to the Music Track object, the correct directory to store music files is Skyrim/Data/Music (and subdirectories). Other directories may cause an "invalid directory" error in the Creation Kit.

There have been numerous issues using .wav files reported, including crashes to desktop when the files are loaded within the game. These issues can be avoided by using the .xwm file format. Although the dialog for selecting audio files only appears to allow .wav extensions, use of the wildcard *.xwm in the file field will allow .xwm files to be selected.
